Yoga For Everybody Everywhere
Whether you wanna get Hot or go with the Flow, there’s a yoga for you. It can be gentle or super challenging. You can always adapt to what is best for your body.
Yoga is Fierce Self Care on all levels. However, Kundalini Yoga, the yoga of awareness and transformation, is a Fierce Hazel favorite.
What we love about yoga is that you can change your attitude in just a few minutes, increase your energy, detox, relax, and release. So give it a try to gear up for a bike ride or kickstart your day.
We've teamed up with Senta Scarborough, who brings us some great starter movements. Use them to relax, get rid of upper body tension, or energize pre-ride. The best thing? These are movements for everybody! All bodies, all genders, all faiths. We are all human.
Shoulder Shrug
The shoulder shrug can be done in just one minute, and the movement will also help relieve some of that tension we cyclists hold in our chests.
1. Sit cross-legged on the ground or upright in your chair
2. Straight spine
3. Deep breath and inhale through the nose
4. Bring your shoulders up; nice and tight to the base of your spine
5. Then quickly drop them down as you exhale through the nose
6. Inhale up; exhale down all through the nose. Do them fairly quickly and at whatever pace is right for you
7. End the exercise by deeply inhaling while lifting shoulders tightly up towards your ears; hold the breath, exhale, and release them down
Breath Of Fire
Want an instant energy boost? Try the Breath Of Fire for some instant Kundalini energy.
1. Sit cross-legged on the ground or upright in your chair
2. Straight spine and relaxed
3. Think about your navel. The breath will start from there
4. To learn, try Dog Breath first. Stick your tongue out as far as you can and pant like a dog. Equal inhale and exhale through your mouth
5. Now you are ready for Breath of Fire, close your mouth, inhale and exhale equal parts through your nose
Ego Eradicator
Do you raise your arms in the air when you win the race? Then this is the exercise for you! Not only will it pump up your energy pre-race, but your teammates will think you're practicing for the finish. Positive visualization is a win-win no matter how you look at it.
1. Sit cross-legged on the ground or upright in your chair
2. Straight spine and relaxed shoulders
3. Raise your arms up 60°, curl your fingers into the base of your fingers with thumbs pointing out as if plugging into the sky
4. Close your eyes and begin Breath Of Fire as above
5. To end, inhale deeply, bring the arms overhead with thumb tips touching, open the fingers, exhale and relax the arms down.
Senta Scarborough teaches a yoga and meditation class, Every Body Elevated, on Monday nights (5:30 p.m. PST/ 8:30 p.m. EST) on RA MA TV.
